Buckeye Elementary School District is committed to protecting the health and safety of our students and staff. Our schools provide a variety of opportunities for outdoor physical activity before, during, and after school. To guide decisions regarding student activity during periods of high heat, the District follows the Heat Index Chart published by the Arizona Department of Health Services.
The heat index represents the “feels like” temperature by accounting for both temperature and humidity. As humidity rises, the body’s ability to cool itself decreases, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Temperature and humidity data for Buckeye Elementary School District (zip code 85326) is gathered daily from www.weather.gov/ and used to calculate the hourly heat index. When the heat index reaches the extreme caution, danger, or extreme danger range, a district designee will notify all staff via email with a Heat Advisory. Buckeye Elementary School District begins limiting outdoor activities once the heat index reaches the extreme caution range.
